Champions

HowYou can help           (change the inner city).

Center for Champions targets low-income, inner-city families. We do not charge the parents for their children's participation in our program, other than a small quarterly commitment donation from each family.  We depend on the financial support of individuals, churches, and businesses to help us reach out to these families. We are not a government sponsored program but a private nonprofit 501c3 faith based organization. This community support is absolutely necessary and greatly appreciated. This enables our program to continue to reach children, teens, single parents, and families of inner-city Harrisburg and Steelton with the love of God.  

i Support us with your time

• We need volunteers and mentors to come weekly.
• We also need people with gifts in areas such as speaking, arts, music, cooking, fundraising, cleaning, dance, etc. to help when possible.

After School Program: Mon.-Thurs. 4-6:15pm.            

Tutoring Program: Tues. 5:45-6:25pm

Monthly Parent Dinners: Thurs. 5:30-8pm (dates vary monthly, call for info)

Our executive director has a MSW and we currently have a couple interns from local colleges.  If you are interested in an intership please contact us.

 

i Support us financially

 We are a Christian ministry and often have had to turn down some government grants that would help our ministry pay bills and staff, but would have significantly limited our ability to talk about our faith: the most important part of our ministry!  Help us to continue this ministry.

Here is a list of resources we currently are in need of:

 Creative Arts Supplies:

• drawing pads
• acrylic paints
• brushes
• gift certificates to A.C. Moore or other art supply places
• gift certificates to fabric shops for dance costumes
• used or new piano keyboards
• used guitars in good shape
• used or new drum sets or various African drums
• new or almost new portable music amplification system that will play cd's, l with good amplification, and microphone for dance teams as they travel and dance outside 

Things for our Classrooms:

• 3 ring binders
• Spiral bound notebooks
• College rule notebook paper
• Pencils/ Gel Pens
• Erasers
• Calculators
• Protractors
• Rulers
• Computers/ Pentium II or above
• School age dictionaries

• An 11-passenger van or mini-bus in very good running condition
• Ink for the printer and the copier
• paper: color and white for the printers, especially 24 weight that can be copied on both sides
• Gas money!!! Gas cards
• Mechanics who do free work
